How Alex Pissios Brought Film and TV Back to Chicago
In the current state of media production, finding a city equipped to tackle feature-length movies and episodic TV shows is challenging. Even though Chicago is one of the largest cities in America, studios have been closing their doors on film productions at an alarming rate. Between 2014 and 2015, five significant studios left the city, leading to a 25% reduction in available studio space. The only thing that remains is smaller boutique studios that aren’t exactly equipped to handle large-scale productions. As a result, many filmmakers have begun pursuing new locations outside of Chicago to shoot their projects. Alex Pissios believes this is a mistake.
With over 20 years of experience as a world-class video engineer, Alex recognized the perfect opportunity for redevelopment within his home city of Chicago. In 2016, he opened ZENDER Studios, a privileged location with all the necessary amenities for film and television production. Thanks to Alex’s efforts, Chicago has become a premier film and television production location. Learn more about Alex Pissios
Born in Chicago and raised in the suburbs, Alex Pissios knew from an early age that he wanted to return to his hometown, but not for the traditional reasons. “I didn’t want to come back here and work at some old factory or something like that. I wanted something creative,” he says. When Alex caught word of a plan by Google to build offices in the city, he saw it as a sign. He packed up his things and moved back home to make his dream a reality.
